The International Conference of Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate research on the global stage

Is my research appropriate for ICUR?

If you are an undergraduate who has either undertaken or contributed to original research then, YES!

And remember – your research does not need to be complete when you submit. Your abstract can be written about what you will do and what you expect to find. You can even present on a project that’s still in progress by the time of the conference, as long as you are still able to provide all the required details as part of the IATL Method for Abstract Writing.

However, most research will need to be adapted or refocused before presenting it at ICUR.

ICUR – AN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE

ICUR is an interdisciplinary conference, and therefore we have the further requirements that your presented research must:

  • Be presented in a way that is accessible to people who are outside your discipline
  • Focus on the impacts that your research could have on wider societal context
  • Be condensed into a 10-minute presentation or interdisciplinary poster that can engage members of the public and students from all disciplines

IS THERE ANY SUPPORT AVAILABLE?

We know that this is unlikely to be something you have done before, so we have put together a series of guides within these resources that can help with adapting presentations or abstracts written for your own subject into one that can be presented at ICUR.

You can find our advice on abstract writing here, and for presentations here. We also run workshops and bootcamps throughout the year – you can find updates posted on our Instagram for the workshops we will be running soon.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

By presenting your research like this you will learn to view your research from the perspective of other disciplines, how to pick out and promote the most exciting parts of your research to others and public presentation skills.

We have written a guide about the transferrable skills you will develop by participating in ICUR here, and you can hear feedback from our alumni about what they enjoyed about ICUR on our 2025 homepage.
