At the time of her Student Directorship, Ala was studying Law at the University of Warwick. Ala took part in ICUR as she greatly appreciated the importance of academic research. In addition shen had previously conducted research about contemporary Jewish and Lemko minorities in Poland as a part of the competition for an educational research project organised by Wroclaw’s Centre for Community Development. The aforementioned experience, combined with the research nature of her degree, reiterates Ala’s interest in developing and engaging in opportunities like ICUR. Furthermore, Ala strongly believe in the interdepartmental cooperation that ICUR promotes. During her time as a President of the Warwick Women’s Careers Society, Ala noticed how important it is to cultivate cooperation between different fields. Ala believes this fosters the development and allows the students to explore subjects they wouldn’t have thought of exploring before. She was particularly impressed by the fact that ICUR brings together students and researchers from all disciplines which ultimately allows the conference to become a celebration of research in general.
